Not sure why, but by default Ubuntu Feisty doesn’t resolve dot local (.local) domains names from my dns server. So to work around this “feature” I manually add my .local domains aliases to my network configuration settings.
Here is how I do it…
1. Click on my little network icon
2. Select “Manual Configuration”
3. Select the “Hosts” tab
4. Click “Add”
5. Add the IP address and host name of my favorite .local domain
6. Click “OK”
7. Browse .local until my heart is content.
